MRR Development files plans for 145-unit mixed-use building in the Plaza District
MRR Development, on August 20, filed a permit application for construction of a 145-unit, 174,532-square-foot mixed-use building at 126 East 57th Street in Plaza District, Manhattan. Rony Attia, senior project manager at MRR, filed the plans.
MRR Development is a joint venture between Indian billionaire Anand Mahindra, the Sapir Organization’s former CEO Rotem Rosen and Zahi Hagag, an Israeli developer.
The partnership purchased an assemblage consisting of 13 parcels for just shy of $104 million in 2019.
City realty revealed renderings for the development in January of 2020.
MRR sued its neighbor Sol Goldman Investments after they could not settle on a license agreement for MRR to protect the Goldman property while the MRR property was demolished. This was one of several construction projects in which the developer resorted to filing a lawsuit, known by the acronym RPAPL 881, when the developer and a neighbor disagreed on construction protections.
The demolition plans were filed last summer.
The new development plans call for the construction of a 346-foot-tall, 28-story building and were filed with the New York City Department of Buildings under job number M00556884.
Below are zoning diagrams for the development:

The project is described in the filing as: herewith filing 28-story new building.
Per the plans, the ground floor will have retail stores and a residential lobby. The second floor will have a kid’s room, lounge, terrace, and seven dwelling units. Floors three through nine will each have nine dwelling units per floor. The rest of the dwelling units will span floors 10 through 28. The 11th floor will have a lounge and terrace. The roof will have public and private terraces. The cellar will have a swimming pool, athletic court, pet grooming room, and an exercise room.
The architect listed is ODA-Architecture, P.C.
Other active plans in the neighborhood include the watchmaker Rolex’s plans for a 155,883-square-foot commercial office building at 665 Fifth Avenue.
