Urban Edge finishes $8.6M rehab at Forest Commons retail center in Staten Island

Urban Edge Properties, on October 22, completed an $8.6 million rehabilitation of a retail building at 2040 Forest Avenue in the Forest Commons Shopping Center in Graniteville, Staten Island. Urban Edge is a spinoff of the public real estate investment trust Vornado Realty Trust.

The plans, pre-filed on May 31, 2019, call for a rehab of the 20-foot tall, one-story, building, which is part of the approximately 150,000-square-foot shopping center.

The project is described in the filings as: interior renovation to accommodate new school space. The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $8,628,221.00.

The building is part of the Forest Commons retail complex. In June of 2019 the developer filed plans to convert the building to a school. However, those plans were withdrawn in December of 2019.
