Straus Group permitted to demo three West Village buildings ahead of 41-unit development
The Straus Group, on March 29, was given permits for the demolition of three buildings at 36-40 West 8th Street in the West Village.
The plans, pre-filed on July 9, 2020, call for the demolition of a one-story building at 36 West 8th Street, a one-story building at 38 West 8th Street, and a one-story building at 40 West 8th Street.
On August 16, 2018, Joseph Straus of the Straus Group filed new building plans calling for a 74-foot tall, seven-story, 35,695-square-foot mixed-use development with 41 dwelling units.
Per the plans, the building would have 7,972-square-feet of retail space. Reports indicated that the dwelling units would be condominiums.
The project also included facade alterations to the neighboring 177 MacDougal Street.
The new building plans were disapproved earlier this month.
The parcels were acquired for $3.8 million on April 23, 2012.
