Plans filed for 67-key expansion of hotel in Chelsea

On May 21, a permit application was filed for a project to add 67 hotel rooms to a hotel at 116 West 28th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan. Ice Cheng filed the plans. Hiu Ian Cheng was the signatory for a $4.6 million loan at the property in 2015. The building is known as the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott New York Manhattan/Chelsea.

The plans call for the expansion of the building from a 153-foot tall, 17-story hotel with 112 rooms to a 165-foot tall, 18-story building with 179 rooms. The plans were filed with the New York City Department of Buildings under number M00514918. The development site spans one tax lot.

The project is described in the filing as: horizontal enlargement of an existing hotel.

According to the plans, the project will add 23,313-square-feet to the total floor area of the building.

Per the plans, the project will add retail space to the ground floor. Four hotel rooms will be added per floor on floors two through 17. The newly constructed 18th floor will have three rooms.

GAuthier Architects is listed as the architect.
