Plans filed for $4.2M multi-floor rehab of UES library, founded in 18th century

The New York Society Library, on August 12, filed plans for a $4.2 million rehabilitation of multiple floors at 53 East 79th Street in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The plans also indicate there will be a horizontal enlargement on the ground floor and cellar of the building.

The library was founded in 1754, and is the oldest library in the city, according to its website. The library is a nonprofit with reading rooms open to the public.

The plans call for work on floors one, two, four, five and the cellar of the 78-foot-tall, five-story building and were filed with the New York City Department of Buildings under job number M00465175.

The project is described in the filing as: renovation of the existing building on following floors: cellar, first, second, fourth, fifth, and horizontal rear enlargement on cellar and first floor.

The architect listed is Larson Architecture Works PLLC.
