Permit for construction of long-planned 71K sf Jewish day school in Bed-Stuy
On April 22, a permit was given for construction of a 71,075-square-foot school building at 184 Nostrand Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Samuel Fischer of Bais Yakov of Khal Adas Yereim, an all-girls school, is listed as the applicant.
The plans were originally proposed by Congregation Adas Yereim, before the property was sold to the current entity in June of 2019. The original plans drew criticism from Bed-Stuy block association members over fears the school would create too much traffic in the area.
The permit issued was a plumbing permit. The developer received initial foundation and new building permits late last year.
The plans, pre-filed on January 3, 2012, call for the construction of a 47-foot tall, four-story building.
The project is described in the filings as: proposed three-story and basement community facility project. Building to comply with 2014 code.
The ground floor of the building will have a lobby, kitchen, multi-purpose room, offices, and open space, per the plans. The second floor will have office and classroom space and a multi-purpose room. The third floor will have office and classroom space and a lunchroom. The basement will have an office, lobby, kitchen, and lunchroom.
Studio Gallos is listed as the architect.
The property has been vacant since 2015, when demolition plans were completed.
