Permit for 91K sf medical facility in Astoria

On April 2, earthwork and plumbing permits were issued for the construction of a 91,400-square-foot medical facility building at 30-14 Crescent Street in Astoria, Queens. Initial new building and foundation permits were issued earlier this year.

The plans were filed by Astoria’s Church of the Redeemer, which was supposed to replace their existing facility, which had been built in 1866.

However, in January of this year, The entity Astoria Crescent Owner LLC paid the church $10.8 million for the development site. The signatory for the buyer was Emanuel Westfried. Later that month, Westfried signed a loan agreement with Knighthead Funding and others for a $42 million construction loan at the property.

The original plans, pre-filed on January 5, 2018, call for the construction of a 75-foot tall, seven-story building.

The plans call for a lobby, health care facility, hospital or related facility space, and church offices on the ground floor of the building. Floors two through seven will each be used for health care facility space. The cellar will have 101 attended parking spaces.

Newman Design Architecture PLLC is listed as the architect. Per a report around the time of filing, JWC Architect Engineer was originally going to be responsible for the design.

Demolition of the church which previously occupied the site was completed last year.
