City finishes $1.7 million rehab of Bronx school for the mentally disabled

The New York City School Construction Authority, on November 2, formally completed a $1.7 million rehabilitation of the Lewis and Clark School at 2555 Tratman Avenue in Westchester Square, the Bronx.

The plans, pre-filed over 10 years ago on April 13, 2009, call for a rehab of the cellar and all floors of the four-story building.

The project is described in the filings as: PS12 remove and replace doors and doorframes and hardware in the fuel oil tank room. Remove two existing oil boilers and two fuel storage tanks and all related piping. Install new gas fired boiler, piping and controls. Install new back flow preventers, gas meters, gas booster pump and gas fired water heater. (See comments section for continuation). The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $1,739,500.

Loring Consulting Engineers, Inc. is the architect listed.

The Lewis and Clark School has several programs to cater to the needs of students who are on the autism spectrum, have significant cognitive delays, are severely emotionally challenged, sensory impaired, and/or have multiple disabilities.
