NYCHA files plans for $16M in Sandy renovations at Smith Houses in LES

As part of the ongoing Superstorm Sandy repairs, the New York City Housing Authority, on June 29, filed eight permit applications totaling $16 million in renovation work to four buildings in the Governor Alfred E. Smith Houses in the Two Bridges section of the Lower East Side. The storm hit New York City in the fall of 2012, and repairs are still underway in public housing.

The first two plans call for a total of $4 million in rehabs to the cellar, ground floor, and outside space of the 170-foot tall, 17-story building with 163 units at 3 St. James Place.

The projects are described in the filings as: building # 5: restoration associated with Sandy recovery. Installation of flood plank/walls, new coping, brick veneer, remove and install new VCT as per plans. No change in use egress or occupancy. Building # 5: fiber reinforced polymer reinforcing to walls and slabs as per plans. No change in use egress or occupancy.
