NYC files plans for $9M conversion from oil to gas at Gravesend School

The city’s School Construction Authority, on July 28, filed a permit application for a $9 million renovation of the Gravesend School at 345 Van Sicklen Street in Gravesend, Brooklyn.

The plans call for a rehab of the cellar, roof, and all four floors of the 50-foot tall, four-story school building.

The project is described in the filings as: removal of two existing oil-fired boilers and replace with two new gas-fired boilers with all climate controls, breeching and piping chemical feeds and blow down piping and associated mechanical dampers for air intake, as per plans filed herewith, no change in use, egress or occupancy. The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $9,000,000.

The school houses just under 1,000 students ranging from pre-K through eighth grade.

The NYC SCA has filed more than 130 A2 renovation plans this year, in addition to numerous new construction developments. Recently, the government agency filed a permit application for a $10 million rehab of a school building at 3740 Baychester Avenue in the Edenwald neighborhood of the Bronx.
