NYC finishes $7.2M rehab of jail building on Rikers Island

The New York City Department of Correction, on November 23, formally completed a $7.2 million rehabilitation of several floors of a building at 11-11 Hazen Street in Rikers Island. The island is legally part of Queens.

The plans, pre-filed on November 9, 2016, call for a rehab of the basement and floors one through three of the 85-foot tall, four-story, building.

The project is described in the filings as: removal of existing heat exchanges, control valves, condensate traps, expansion tanks, makeup water system pumps. Install complete package skid heating system, main piping in lower level corr. six, new HW supply and return rises from lower level. No change in use, egress or occupancy. The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $7,150,000.

No rehab plans have been filed at the building since April of 2019.
