$3.9M rehab of City College building in West Harlem is permitted
The Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, on August 13, was given a permit for a $3.9 million rehabilitation of a campus building, known as Shepard Hall, at The City College of New York at 160 Convent Avenue in West Harlem.
The plans, pre-filed on February 5, call for a rehab of the space outside of the 90-foot tall, nine-story, building.
The project is described in the filings as: structural demolition of three 50,000-gallon and one 10,000-gallon USTS (underground storage tanks) and structural construction of five 35,000-gallon USTS. The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $3,869,004.
The architect listed is Watts Architecture & Engineering.
The building, which is recognized as a historic landmark, is more than a century old. It was designed by George Browne Post and has one numerous architecture awards over the years.
Five renovation plans have been filed at the building so far this year, the most recent coming in June.
