McSam Hotel Group files plans for 169-key hotel in Midtown West

Sam Chang’s McSam Hotel Group, on July 31, filed a permit application for construction of a 169-key, 50,000-square-foot hotel building at 777 Eighth Avenue in Midtown West.

The plans call for the construction of a 209-foot tall, 23-story hotel building.

The project is described in the filings as: hereby filing for R-1 hotel building.

The cellar of the building will have four hotel rooms, an exercise room, break room, office, and storage space, per the plans filed. The ground floor will have a lobby, four rooms, lounge, reception, office, and luggage room. Floors 2 through 18 will each have eight rooms, the 19th floor will have seven rooms, and floors 20 through 22 will each have six rooms. The 23rd floor boiler and electrical equipment.

The building sits two blocks south of the 50th Street subway station, serviced by the A, C, and E trains and one block west of the 49th Street station, serviced by the N, R, and W trains.

The architect listed is Gene Kaufman Architect, who commonly works with McSam on their developments.

Demolition plans have not been filed.

McSam Hotel Group is one of the largest hotel developers in New York City. The company was founded in 2001 by its current chairman, Sam Chang. The 22-story Hyatt Centric hotel, another McSam development, is slated to open up this summer. The plans for the hotel were pre-filed on December 18, 2015, calling for a 22-story, 162-key hotel at 16 East 39th Street.
