Liberty One Group permitted for 197-bed homeless shelter in Flatbush

Liberty One Group, on April 7, was given a permit for construction of a 10-unit, 21,950-square-foot homeless shelter with 197 beds at 21 Duryea Place in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Yosef Rabinowitz filed the plans.

The permit issued was a plumbing permit, with the developer receiving initial new building and foundation permits in the fall of 2020.

The plans, pre-filed on June 27, 2019, call for the construction of a 65-foot tall, six-story building.

The project is described in the filings as: new six-story transient shelter facility.

The ground floor of the building will have office space and a terrace, per the plans. Floors two through five will each have two rooming units per floor and 42 beds per floor. The sixth floor will have one rooming unit with 29 beds.

The shelter will be operated by Black Veterans for Social Justice.

IMC Architecture is listed as the architect.

According to a report from Brownstoner, the development is on track for a 2022 completion after a series of delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The property was acquired for $1.5 million on March 8, 2017.
