238 affordable units in two towers planned for Morrisania parcel owned by Joel Schur
A development using Joel Schur’s company Webster 1099 Realty LLC, is moving forward with plans to construct two buildings, totaling 220,000-square-feet, at 1099 Webster Avenue in Morrisania in the Bronx. The buildings are set to have a total of 238 residential units.
On September 15, a zoning map and zoning text amendment were filed to facilitate the construction of one nine-story building and one 11-story building, with 238 affordable residential units. The plans were disclosed to the city in an environmental assessment statement filed in January of 2019.
The 220,000-square-feet would be split between 190,000-square-feet of residential space and 30,000-square-feet of commercial space.
Joel Schur, along with his brothers Lawrence and Paul, at one point owned a joint interest in two NY textile manufacturing companies, Orbit Industries, Inc. and Rome Knitting Mills, Inc. They acquired this parcel in 1982.
The brothers also owned several properties through the Schur Realty Company, However, after years of disagreements, legal battles, and an increasingly strained relationship, the brother’s partnership dissolved, according to court filings.
No new building plans have been filed yet with the NYC Department of Buildings at 1099 Webster Avenue.
