Housing nonprofit finishes $4.5M rehab of 326-unit resi building in Flatiron

Housing and Services, Inc., a non-profit homeless services organization, on September 17, formally completed a $4.5 million rehabilitation of a 326-unit building at 143 East 23rd Street in Flatiron.

The plans, pre-filed on May 24, 2016, call for a rehab of the sub-cellar, cellar, and all floors of the 195-foot tall, 22-story, building.

The project is described in the filings as: boiler replacement chimney liner installation upgrades to ventilation and replacement of finishes at first floor. Remodeling of the baths and kitchen at units. Replace water and waste lines to accommodate new cabinets and countertops in kitchen on second floor to res. vio #35255131m. No change to use, egress, or occupancy under this application. The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $4,497,845.

No plans have been filed at the building in over two years.
