HH Realty Equities issued TCO following $1.8M project to convert funeral home to school in Midwood

Ariel Akkad’s HH Realty Equities, on August 3, was issued a temporary certificate of occupancy for a $1.8 million project which converted a 10,723-square-foot funeral parlor to a school building at 1623 Coney Island Avenue in Midwood.

The plans, pre-filed on August 23, 2018, call for no change in size but a change in use of the 13-foot tall, one-story building. The time from pre-file to TCO was two years.

The project is described in the filings as: Alt1 conversion into school, work to include minor interior renovations, new non-load-barring partitions, as per plans, no change in bulk. The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $1,840,000.

The Schedule A attached to the plans indicates that the cellar was converted from office space and storage to classroom and school space. The ground floor was converted from a funeral parlor to classroom and school space.

The architect for the project was Garfinkle Architects, PLLC.

The property was acquired for $6.8 million on October 19, 2016.
