Extell files plans for 534-key hotel on 48th Street in Midtown West

Gary Barnett’s Extell Development, on November 20, filed a permit application for construction of a 534-key, 168,897-square-foot hotel building at 32 West 48th Street in Midtown West.

The plans call for the construction of a 456-foot tall, 33-story hotel building.

The project is described in the filings as: construction of a new building.

The cellar of the building will have retail space, according to the plans. The ground floor will have additional retail space, a lobby, and an office. The second floor will have an eating and drinking establishment and a lounge. Floors four through seven will each have 19 rooms per floor, floors eight through 10 will each have 22 rooms per floor, floors 11 through 15 will each have 21 rooms per floor, floors 16 through 22 will each have 20 rooms per floor, floors 23 through 25 will each have 19 dwelling units per floor, and floors 26 through 30 will each have 18 rooms per floor.

SLCE Architects LLP will be the architect.

News reports when Extell bought 32 West 48th Street and adjacent buildings for $40 million in November of 2018 said it was likely he would develop a hotel building at the site.

In February of this year, the developer sold one of the parcels in the assemblage, located at 25 West 47th Street, for $9.5 million.
