Edison Properties finishes $2.8M multi-floor rehab of Hippodrome Building

Edison Properties, on September 3, formally completed a $2.6 million rehabilitation of several floors of the Hippodrome Building at 1120 Avenue of the Americas in Grand Central.

The plans, pre-filed on August 28, 2019, call for a rehab of floors one through 18 of the 237-foot tall, 21-story, building.

The project is described in the filings as: filing herewith renovation to the 1st and 18th floors. As per plans filed herewith. No change to use, egress and occupancy. The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $2,600,000.

Sasaki Associates is the architect listed on the filing.

The Hippodrome was originally constructed in 1905 and used as a theatre that hosted productions, circuses, and performances such as Harry Houdini.

The theatre closed in the late 1930s and was converted into an office building prior to being acquired by Edison in the late 1970s. Edison then fully modernized the building from 2006 to 2014.

The most recent plans were filed nearly a year ago, in November of 2019.
