Developer permitted to construct 26K sf residential building in Chelsea
Gary Vinbaytel of 126 West 26th Street LLC, on July 13, was given a permit for construction of a 13-unit, 26,543-square-foot residential building at 128 West 26th Street in Chelsea.
The plans, pre-filed on August 17, 2017, call for the construction of a 148-foot tall, 14-story residential building.
While demand remains for residential construction, storage is gaining a foothold in the city. Earlier this month and just three blocks to the north the Boston-based Davis Companies filed a permit application to construct a 135,003-square-foot storage building at 155 West 29th Street.
The Vinbaytel project is described in the filings as: proposed new 14-story masonry building. Related job numbers M00273556, M00283321.
The ground floor of the 26th Street building will have a residential lobby and commercial space, according to the plans. Floors two through 14 will each have one dwelling unit. The cellar will have storage for commercial space above. Considering the average size of each unit is over 1,700-square-feet, they will most likely be used as condominiums.
Panagiotis Vikatos is listed as the architect on the filing.
The property was acquired for $10.2 million on July 17, 2017.
