Fisher Brothers finishes demolition of building to clear way for new development in Long Island City

Fisher Brothers demolished a building at 42-50 24th Street in Long Island City to make way for a large residential tower. On July 13 the city certified the demolition was complete.

The demolition plans, pre-filed on March 29, 2019, call for the removal of a one-story building. The plans were permitted that December.

The property was purchased by Property Markets Group and the Hakim Organization for $69 million on December 15, 2015.

In 2018, renderings of a 74-story skyscraper planned for the site were released. Reports speculated it would be 750 feet tall, which would put it close to the tallest tower in the borough.

However, no definitive plans for that building were filed, and on October 18, 2019, Fisher Brothers filed plans for a 245,887-square-feet, 35-story, 447-foot tall mixed-use building with 240-units.

The plans indicated that the ground floor will have space for three retail stores, in addition to a residential lobby. The second floor will be used for storage and a parking area with 94 spaces. The third floor will have retail space with accompanying retail storage and tenant storage space. The fourth floor will have a gym, wellness center, and fitness center for residential use, as well as a hotel staff locker room, hotel storage, and meeting rooms. The fifth floor will be used for a hotel recreation space, work lounge, a game and sports lounge, and a roof deck for passive recreation. Floors 6 through 17 will each have 13 hotel rooms and floors 19 through 30 will each have seven apartments. The 31st floor will be occupied by an accessory party room, lounge with catering kitchen and a panoramic terrace. The top three floors will be used for boiler and mechanical equipment.

Around the time of filing, reports stated it was unclear how Fisher Brothers was connected to the JV between Property Markets Group and the Hakim Organization.
