City plans 73K sf affordable housing project in Highbridge

New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development is planning a 73,500-square-foot affordable housing development for seniors at 97 West 169th Street in the Highbridge neighborhood of the Bronx.

The plans were disclosed in an application seeking urban development action area designation and urban development action area program approval to facilitate the development.

According to the filing, the building will have 71,000-square-feet of residential space, 2,500-square-feet of community facility space and 2,900-square-feet of recreational space. The number of residential units was not stated in the filing, although a statement from the HPD claimed it would consist of 80 to 100 affordable units.

Last January it was reported that the HPD was seeking proposals from developers to construct the building. The development site will reportedly be made up of two adjacent tax lots.

In December of last year the HPD announced that a team led by the West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing would be in charge of the development.
