City permitted for 61K sf greenmarket facility in Hunts Point

New York City Economic Development Corporation, on February 22, was given a permit for construction of a 61,524-square-foot greenmarket facility building at 298 Halleck Street in Hunts Point. Jhaelen Hwenandez-Eli filed the plans.

Reports stated the building will be used to aid GrowNYC with produce distribution from local farms. Additionally, the building will be used for food processing, storage, and distribution by vendors.

The plans, pre-filed on December 2, 2019, call for the construction of a 51-foot tall, two-story building.

The project is described in the filings as: proposed new two-story NYS green market food hub building.

According to the plans, the ground floor of the building will have refrigerator and food storage space. The second floor will have food retail space.

BLD Architecture is listed as the architect.

Demolition plans have not been filed.

Financing for the project is coming from the New York City EDC and the City Council, while GrowNYC will lease the building.
