City files plans for $50M project to convert 605K sf Kingsbridge Armory to ice skating complex

New York City Economic Development Corporation, on September 30, filed a permit application for a $50 million change in use to the 605,646-square-foot building at 1 West Kingsbridge Road, known as Kingsbridge Armory, in Kingsbridge, the Bronx. The redevelopment will convert the historic armory into the country’s largest ice skating complex.

The plans call for no change in size but a change in use of the 35-foot tall, three-story, 605,646-square-foot building. The developer has been identified as Kevin Parker.

The project is described in the filings as: filed herewith alteration type 1 for change in use, egress and occupancy, converting Kingsbridge Armory to ice hockey facility as A-4 “place of assembly” as per plans. The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $50,000,000.

The Kingsbridge National Ice Center (KNIC) has been in the works for years now. After originally being announced in 2013, the project has faced numerous road blocks and false starts.

Earlier this year the armory was being used to provide food packaging and delivery for families who couldn’t afford groceries and meals and did not receive assistance from other providers.
