City files plans for $5.3 rehab of prison building on Rikers Island
New York City Department of Corrections, on March 11, filed a permit application for a $5.3 million rehabilitation of one floor and space outside of a prison building at 19-19 Hazen Street on Rikers Island. The island is legally part of Queens.
The plans call for a rehab of the ground floor and space outside of the 25-foot tall, two-story building.
The project is described in the filings as: herewith filing for general construction work including interior renovation and to the existing facility as indicated in the drawings filed herein. No change in use, egress or occupancy filed under this application. The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $5,324,897.
The city has filed plans for a series of rehabs to prison facility buildings in recent months, such as a $17.7 million roof rehab in December.
