New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, on November 16, filed a permit application for a $3.4 million exterior rehabilitation of Edgewater Village Hall in Tappen Park, located at 111 Canal Street on Staten Island.

The plans call for a rehab of the roof of the 43-foot tall, two-story, building.

The project is described in the filings as: proposed reconstruction of the Village Hall roof located in Tappen Park. All as per plans filed herewith, no change in use, egress or occupancy. The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $3.39 million.

The building was originally constructed in 1889 as a municipal, city, and magistrate’s courthouse. The structure was designated a landmark of the city in 1983.
