City files plans for $202.9M of work at Brooklyn Municipal Building

Department of Citywide Administrative Services, on December 3, filed multiple plans calling for $202.9 million of work at 210 Joralemon Street in Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn. The project is related to the relocation of Brooklyn’s Housing Court to the building.

DCAS recently filed plans for a $187.1 million project to renovate office and retail space at the building. Those Alt-CO plans had the same initial cost as the largest plans filed on December 3, which are discussed in this post.

Earlier this year the building’s name was changed to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg Municipal Building, to honor the late Supreme Court jurist.

In 2014 reports circulated that Brooklyn’s Housing Court was preparing to move from 141 Livingston Street to the Municipal Building.

The city  forecasted in 2016 the budget for the project to be $81 million. However, according to public data from the city, the budget has risen to $252 million. The project is expected to be completed in August of 2024.

Once the court fully relocates to the 1920s government building, it will occupy five floors, according to a report from 2014. The report also states to make room, the city will have to move out and relocate four or five city agencies.

The first plans call for $187.1 million of work and were filed with the New York City Department of Buildings under job number B00450211.

The project is described in the filing as: Interior removal and build-out for HVAC system and related piping as shown on drawings. No change in use, egress or occupancy.
