Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE), on November 29, filed a permit application for construction of a 90-unit, 62,932-square-foot shelter at 39-03 College Point Boulevard in Flushing, Queens. Thomas Yu, Co-Executive Director of Asian Americans for Equality, filed the new building plans.

Asian Americans for Equality seeks to advance racial, social and economic justice for Asian Americans and other systematically disadvantaged communities through community development.

Last month a housing lottery was launched for East Village Homes, a 100 percent affordable project from AAFE at 302 East 2nd Street.

In the previous 12 months there have been 52 new building plans filed in Flushing. These plans call for the construction of the fourth most units in the neighborhood over that span.

The plans call for the construction of a 72-foot-tall, seven-story building and were filed with the New York City Department of Buildings under job number Q00633533. The development site spans one tax lot.

The project is described in the filing as: propose new seven-story with partial cellar non-profit institution with sleeping accommodations (UG3).

Per the plans, the ground floor of the building will have a lobby, offices, a lunch room, a dining hall, a community room, and a kitchen. Floors two through seven will each have 15 sleeping rooms per floor.
