Aurora Capital receives TCO for $10.1M redevelopment on Gansevoort Street

Aurora Capital and William Gottlieb Real Estate, on July 21, were issued a temporary certificate of occupancy for a $10.1 million project to revamp a store and office building at 60 Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District. The project is part of a redevelopment that will renovate the block ranging from 46 to 74 Gansevoort Street.

The plans, pre-filed on June 19, 2015, call for an increase in the size of the building from a 27-foot tall, two-story building to an 80-foot tall, six-story, building. The time from pre-filing to TCO was five years and one month.

The project is described in the filings as: application filed for the renovation, change of use and combination of 60-74 Gansevoort Street as shown on plans filed here with. Obtain new certificate of occupancy. The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $10.064 million.

The redevelopment has numerous retail spaces on the ground floor while the upper floors will be used for office space.

The project has faced local opposition over the years. The Landmarks Preservation Commission originally approved the plans, before a local preservation group, Save Gansevoort, sued both the commission and the developers in October 2016, claiming that commission improperly approved the project. A state appellate division ultimately allowed the project to continue in 2018.
