Weill Cornell Medical College was given a permit on August 31 for the demolition of the Church of the Epiphany at 1393 York Avenue, at the corner of York Avenue and East 74th Street. This demolition is to make way for a large campus building.

The plans, pre-filed on February 17, 2022, call for the demolition of a building. The project is described in the filings as: full demolition of a two-story church building as per plans filed herewith. The property was acquired for $68 million on February 20, 2019.

Weill Cornell Medical College, on November 3, 2021, filed a permit application for construction of a 221-unit, 128,205-square-foot building at 1393 York Avenue in the Upper East Side, Manhattan. Dmitri Konon, assistant vice provost at Weill Cornell Medicine, filed the plans.

The zoning information states the building will only have 31 apartments, however the scope of work states there will actually be 221.

The estimated job cost is $118 million, while the estimated total cost has been projected to be $260 million.

Weill Cornell Medical College purchased the site from the Church of the Epiphany for $68 million in February of 2019. According to a report from The Real Deal at the time, that purchase worked out to slightly more than $600 per buildable square foot.
