$3.2M rehab filed in Washington Heights building ahead of Target opening

The owner of a Washington Heights retail building, on August 26, filed a permit application for a $3.2 million rehabilitation at 600 West 181st Street in Washington Heights. Target is expected to occupy space in the building this year.

The plans call for a rehab of the cellar and both floors of the 30-foot tall, two-story, building.

The project is described in the filings as: general construction for retail space on cellar, first and second floors. The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $3,240,000.

In May of 2019, Target signed a 15-year lease to occupy roughly 23,700-square-feet of space in the building. At the time of the deal, the building was occupied by Modell’s, Kohl’s, and Best Buy.

Reports indicated that Target would open sometime in 2020 in the building, which has been active filing renovation plans in preparation. Four A2 plans have been filed so far in 2020, in addition to one A1 filing which sought to change the occupancy of the second floor from retail to department store.

Target has been actively signing leases. It recently signed a lease for 28,210-square-feet of space in a retail store owned by Solomon Cohen at 2101 Church Avenue in Flatbush, as PincusCo first reported.
