Torkian Group to build resi at Yorkville corner site

The Torkian Group plans to build a residential structure on a large corner parcel at Third Avenue and 83rd Street in Yorkville, Hersel Torkian told PincusCo.

To clear the way, Torkian Group, on February 8, was given a permit for the demolition of a building at 1595 Second Avenue in Yorkville. Hersel Torkian filed the plans.

Last month the firm was permitted for the demolition of an adjacent four-story building at 1593 Second Avenue. Additionally, plans have been filed for the demolition of a third building at 1591 Second Avenue, those plans are still awaiting permits. Those structures are all on a multi-building, 10,386-square-foot tax lot with approximately 100 feet of frontage each on Third Avenue and on East 83rd Street. Last year the developer acquired an adjacent property at 242 East 83rd Street for $5 million. The land is zoned C1-9, which has an equivalent of R10 residential zoning, meaning the site could allow for a large tower.

The plans, pre-filed on March 11, 2019, call for the demolition of a four-story building.

The project is described in the filings as: filing for full demolition of a four-story building.

Although no new building plans have been filed yet, Torkian told PincusCo he plans to construct a multifamily development at the site.

Three pre-war rental buildings on the site were acquired for $8 million on October 7, 2005.
