Tishman Speyer files for $10.8M multi-floor rehab at MetLife Building

Tishman Speyer, on August 31, filed a permit application for a $10.8 million rehabilitation of several floors of the MetLife Building at 200 Park Avenue in Midtown.

The plans call for a rehab of floors 51 through 53 of the 797-foot tall, 59-story, building.

The project is described in the filings as: filing herewith interior demolition and renovation to the existing spaces on the 51st, 52nd and 53rd floors as per plans filed herewith. No change to use, egress or occupancy. The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $10,750,000.

Tishman Speyer purchased the building from the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, which had owned it since 1981, for over $1.7 billion dollars in 2005. However, California billionaire Donald Bren’s Irvine Company has built an ownership stake greater than 97 percent in the tower over the past decade. Tishman, however, remains the property manager and minor stake owner.
