SL Green finishes $15M rehab of multiple floors to Daily News Building
SL Green Realty, on July 10, completed a $15 million rehabilitation to several floors of an office building at 220 East 42nd Street in Murray Hill. The building is referred to as the Daily News Building.
The plans, pre-filed on April 13, 2017, called for a rehab of the cellar, floors one through three, and five through seven, of the 407-foot tall, 37-story, building.
The project is described in the filings as: removal and installation of interior non-bearing partitions and related finishes as per plans filed herewith. No change in use, egress or occupancy under this application. The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $15 million.
SL Green acquired the building in 2003 for $265 million.
Tenants who have signed leases in the building in recent years iclude Omnicom Group, the United Nations, WPIX-TV, and Martin Clearwater & Bell.
New York property investor Jacob Chetrit signed a contract this past fall to buy the building from SL Green for $815 million. However, the deal collapsed after the Chetrit’s financing pulled out earlier this year. No plans have been filed since the the deal fell apart.
