Reuben brothers pay $150M to Kaufman Organization for Surrey hotel
The Reuben brothers through the entity Surrey Propco LLC paid the Kaufman Organization affiliate Surrey Realty Associates LLC $150.2 million for 20 East 76th Street in the Upper East Side. The deal closed on December 3, 2020, and was recorded on December 8, 2020. The transaction consists of 1 parcel, including the tax class luxury type hotel built prior to 1960 (H1) and containing 112 residential units. The property is 135,582 square feet.
The Kaufman entity had ground leased the property, but the lease was extinguished in a bankruptcy action. The signatory for Kaufman was Edward Hart, the company’s CEO. The contract date was December 3, 2020, the same as the closing date. The signatory for the buyer was Reed Smith attorney William Organek. The buying entity was listed at the U.S. offices of the global logistics company Metro Interntional Trade Services, which the Reuben Brothers own.
