Project Renewal files plans for 200-bed women’s shelter in Lincoln Square
Project Renewal, on July 7, filed a permit application for construction of a 200-bed, 44,879-square-foot women’s shelter at 537 West 59th Street in Lincoln Square, Manhattan. Paul Woody, vice president of real estate at Project Renewal, filed the plans.
The property is currently owned by Manhattan Neighborhood Network (MNN). The media learning, production, and distribution hub announced plans in January to sell the building by the end of the year. In a statement released by the organization, it was stated that the site would be redeveloped in conjunction with the City’s Department of Homeless Services and non-profit social service provider Project Renewal as a transitional housing facility for women experiencing homelessness.
A local publication reported that the facility is expected to open in 2024, will accommodate 200 women experiencing homelessness and mental health.
The plans call for the construction of a 98-foot-tall, nine-story building and were filed with the New York City Department of Buildings under job number M00550178. The development site spans one tax lot.
The project is described in the filing as: construct new nine-story building.
According to the plans, the ground floor of the building will have multiple exam rooms, a nurses office, kitchen, dining area, psychiatrist room, and tv room. The second floor will have office space. The third floor will have a library, sleeping accommodations, and terrace. Floors four through nine will have additional sleeping accommodations. The cellar will have a lounge, office space, and a kitchen.
