NYC Health + Hospitals is fully permitted for a $14M rehab at Kings County Hospital
NYC Health + Hospitals, on April 28, was given a permit for a $14 million facade and roof rehab of a hospital at 444 Winthrop Street in Brooklyn.
The plans call for a renovation of the 69-foot tall, 6-story, building.
The project is described in the filings as: Kings County Hospital, ‘P’ building, exterior repairs including: facade panel cladding, replacement of window, window wall, curtain wall, brick, lintel, parapet, roof and stone panel as per the plans filed. The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $14,000,000.
The hospital was built in 1831, on property purchased from the Martense family for $3K, as a one room infirmary for publicly supported care of the sick. In 1837, the hospital was only 86-feet long and 36-feet wide. It has expanded greatly over the years, today the building is over 1.5 million square feet and has over 627 beds.
