Mormon Church affiliate files plans for a 61-unit residential building in Chelsea

The Mormon Church formally known as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, through its real estate arm City Creek Reserve, on May 1, filed a permit application for construction of a 61-unit, 61,102-square-foot residential building at 144 West 15th Street in Chelsea.

The plans call for the construction of a 120-foot tall, 11-story, residential building.

The project is described in the filings as: application filed in order to erect 11-story residential building with community use on the ground floor and cellar.

The plans for the proposed building indicate the cellar will have a cultural center, custodial room, and classrooms. The ground floor will have a chapel, two classrooms, a leasing office, and residential lobby. The second floor will have two dwelling units along with church offices and a recreation room. Floors three through six will have eight dwelling units each, the seventh floor will have seven dwelling units, the eighth floor will have four dwelling units, and floors nine through 11 will have five dwelling units each.

The church bought the building April 16, 2002 for $9.7 million.
