Domain seeks certification for 360-unit mixed-use building in Gowanus

Domain Companies through 420 Carroll LLC is seeking Chairperson Certification to facilitate the development of a two-tower, 313,500-square-foot mixed-use development with 360 dwelling units at 420 Carroll Street in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Chris Papamichael, one of the founders of the firm, was listed as the primary applicant.

The developer purchased the site for $47.5 million in February of 2018.

The requested certification would facilitate the issuance of foundation and excavation permits which would lead to the construction of a two-tower development which would be inter-connected by a below-grade passageway.

The east tower would be 16-stories and approximately 175 feet tall. It would be comprised of
residential uses and retail uses. The ground floor would consist of residential uses, accessory off-street parking, accessory bicycle parking, and retail uses. Floors 2-16 would contain residential uses. The west tower would be 21-stories with a height of approximately 225 feet. It would be comprised of residential space, retail space, office space, and Gowanus mix uses.

The proposed development would contain a total of 360 dwelling units, of which 89 (25% of the
residential floor area) would be permanently affordable.

In total, the development will consist of approximately 286,171-square-feet of residential
space, approximately 12,090-square-feet of retail space, approximately 7,574-square-feet of commercial space, and approximately 7,574-square-feet of Gowanus mix use.
