Diocese of Brooklyn files plans for 105-unit mixed-use building at site of century-old church in Fort Greene
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn, on December 2, filed a permit application for construction of a 105-unit, 32,133-square-foot mixed-use building at 108 St. Edwards Street in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Michael Campo, the facilities manager for Diocese of Brooklyn, filed the plans.
The site has been occupied by a Romanesque Revival church for over a century, with construction beginning in 1891 and the final touches not being completed until 1906. The church began to greatly deteriorate over the years, before ultimately closing in 2010.
There have been nine new building plans filed in the neighborhood this year. These plans call for the construction of the second most dwelling units out of the plans.
The plans call for the construction of a 115-foot-tall, 11-story building and were filed with the New York City Department of Buildings under job number B00627782. The development site spans one tax lot.
The project is described in the filing as: Construct new 11-story mixed-use building as per plans filed.
Per the plans, the ground floor of the building will have a conference room, recreation spaces, waiting area, lobby, offices, and nine dwelling units. Floors two through five will each have 15 dwelling units per floor. Floors six through 11 will each have 11 dwelling units per floor. The sixth floor will also have an outdoor recreation area. The cellar will have office space.
The architect listed is Aufgang Architects.
