Cooke School issued TCO for 49K sf school building in East Harlem

Cooke School and Institute, on September 1, was issued a temporary certificate of occupancy for construction of a 49,803-square-foot school building at 1713 Madison Avenue in East Harlem.

The plans, pre-filed on August 7, 2017, call for the construction of a 50-foot tall, 4-story building. The time from pre-file to TCO was three years and one month.

According to the plans, the cellar of the school has the lower level of a gym, lounge, waiting area, locker rooms, an office, server room, and a pantry. The ground floor has the upper level of the gym, school store, office space, storage, and a cafeteria. The second and third floors have office and classroom space, while the second floor also has a play roof. The fourth floor also has classroom and office space in addition to a lab and yoga area. The roof provides a second play area.

Cooke School and Institute provides schooling and services for nearly 300 students ages 5-21 with developmental disabilities.

The property was acquired for $6.9 million on February 16, 2017.
