City receives TCO for $8M basement expansion in Chelsea resi building

New York City Housing Authority, on February 3, was issued a temporary certificate of occupancy for an $8 million project to expand the basement of a residential building at 119 9th Avenue in Chelsea. The building is part of a four-building tax lot with 272 units.

The plans, pre-filed on February 6, 2014, call for a rehab and expansion of the basement of the 60-foot tall, six-story building. The time from pre-file to TCO was seven years.

The project is described in the filings as: renovation of basement floor interior space, work includes new offices, storage rooms, and entrance renovation and conversion of space to office, lounge area, closets, locker room, cook office, toilet and kitchen storage, and window expansion on facade. The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $8,000,000.

According to the plans Schedule A, the project also added classroom space to the basement.

NYC HA is also listed as the architect for the development.

No plans have been filed at the building since 2018.
