City files for UWS demo where Fetner plans 171-unit development

The Department of Housing Preservation and Development, on August 19, filed a permit application for the demolition of a building at 266 West 96th Street in the Upper West Side, in Manhattan.

In May of 2019, Fetner Properties submitted a proposal to the city to construct a 235-foot tall, 23-story, 150,890-square-foot mixed-use building with 171 dwelling units at the site.

According to the proposal, the development would have 80 micro-units and 91 traditionally sized units. 68 of the 171 units would be affordable. The building would be made up of roughly 140,000-square-feet of residential space and nearly 11,000-square-feet of community space.

Last year the development received unanimous approval by Community Board 7’s land use committee, per several reports.

Below are renderings of the development:

The plans call for the demolition of a three-story building.

The project is described in the filings as: full demolition of three-story structure using hand held and mechanical to assist. Foundations to remain.
