Bronx charter school files plans for a 76K sf school in Mott Haven
Evelyn Hey, principal of South Bronx Charter School for International Cultures & the Arts, on June 29, filed a permit application for construction of a 76,486-square-foot school building building at 199 East 135th Street in Mott Haven, the Bronx.
The plans call for the construction of a 68-foot tall, 4-story, building.
The project is described in the filings as: proposed filing of a new building application for South Bronx Charter School for International Cultures & the Arts. All as per plans filed herewith. (For purposes of obtaining objection for submission to the BSA).
The cellar of the building will have a vocal room, boys and girls dressing room, recording studio, weight room, small dance studio, music/orchestra, nurse room, office space, an IT and maintenance room, and a records room, per the plans filed. The ground floor will have a gym, theatre, stage, student store, gym office, cafeteria, and kitchen. The mezzanine will have a gallery and dance studio. The second floor will have offices, student services, classrooms, robotic lab, and graphics studio. The third floor will have more classrooms, a science lab, visual arts studio, office space, and a lounge. The fourth floor will consist of a multi-media center, greenhouse, science lab, a recess and science roof, office space, office space, storage, executive room, and a faculty lounge.
The plans do not indicate if the building will be for elementary or middle school levels.
Stephen Grasso of Partners for Architecture is listed as the architect.
Demolition plans have not yet been filed.
