Anonymous buyer pays $35M, a Soho record, for condo unit

The anonymous entity Menemshovitz NY Realty, Inc. paid David Matlin and Lisa Matlin’s 421 Broome St. LLC $35.1 million for a condo unit at 421 Broome Street in Soho. The deal closed on September 16, 2020, and was recorded on October 1, 2020. The transaction consists of 2 parcels, including the tax class residential condo in Acris (SC). The property is 8,000 square feet.

The contract date was August 10, 2020. The sellers are a married couple. David Matlin is co-founder of distressed investment firm MatlinPatterson Global Advisers. The sale was a record for a residential home in Soho, the Wall Street Journal reported.  The last time the property sold was March 25, 2011, for $17,819,375.

The buyer may have also bought a home in Martha’s Vineyard in 2018 for $15 million.  The buying entity was similar and both used lawyers from the Gibbons law firm in Manhattan. The attorney who signed for the Soho unit is a member of the firm’s “German Practice and counsels a number of German clients.”
