Amazon is fully permitted for $3M rehab of former Lord & Taylor Building in Garment District
Amazon, on August 13, was given a permit for a $3 million rehabilitation of several floors at 424 Fifth Avenue in Garment District. The building was formerly known as the Lord & Taylor Building, who had owned it until 2019 when they sold it to WeWork.
The plans, pre-filed on June 19, 2019 before Amazon owned the building, call for a rehab of the cellar, sub-cellar, mezzanines, roof, and all floors of the 166-foot tall, 13-story, building. The job was filed in conjunction with a much larger $31 million project to convert retail to office space.
The project is described in the filings as: install combined sprinkler/standpipe system as per plans filed. No change to use, egress, or occupancy. Filed in conjunction with alt 1 #121189597 The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $3,017,500.
Amazon acquired the historic building for $978 million in March. At the time of the purchase, the building increased Amazon’s NYC footprint to more than 2.6 million square feet.
