Rehab center permitted for $1.5M conversion to men’s shelter in Mott Haven

Narco Freedom Child & Families, on August 10, was given a permit for a $1.5 million project that will convert a 17,718-square-foot outpatient addiction treatment building to a men’s shelter at 528 Morris Avenue in Mott Haven.

The plans, pre-filed on February 11 by the property manager, call for no change in use of the 75-foot tall, five-story building.

The project is described in the filings as: alteration type 1 application to convert existing building into a men’s shelter. The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $1,500,000.

The ground floor store will be converted to retail of some kind, per the plans filed. The medical office on the second floor will be converted to a cafeteria, kitchen, exam rooms, staff lounge, consulting room, and waiting room. The medical offices on the third, fourth, and fifth floors will each be converted to institutions with sleeping accommodations and accessory offices.

Zyscovich Architects is the architect listed on the application.
