Alain Laurent and his brother Patrick Laurent opened La Ripaille in 1980, and Alain and his wife Theresa announced in 2024 it would close, but it did not close until 2026. Laurent and Patrick Laurent bought the building December 31, 1985 for $869,000 (price according to PincusCo analysis of transfer records) financed with a $377,000 purchase money mortgage. The NY Times reported in 1983 that the restaurant was, “opened three years ago [1980] by Patrick and Alain Laurent, and their wives, Theresa and Nelly, who are in charge of the kitchen…”
