The affordable-housing developer Hudson Companies disclosed a larger Crown Heights mixed-use project through a recent City Planning application, stating an intent to build 327 dwelling units at 975 Nostrand Avenue, instead of the 178 dwelling units currently given in a Department of Building application from November 2021.
The new application is seeking an increase in the size of the building in part as a bonus for including a grocery store in the development complex.
According to the application, the developer is seeking “A proposed certification and authorization [ZR 63-22 and ZR 63-30] to facilitate a FRESH food store in a new 9-story, 261,562 [square foot, 327-unit], mixed-use development, including 235,749 square feet of residential floor area, 24,537 [square feet] of commercial floor area including 16,000 [square feet] of FRESH floor area, and 965 [square feet] of [community facility] area, is being sought by Nostrand Green LLC at 975 Nostrand Avenue in Crown Heights South, Community District 9, Brooklyn.”
Hudson Companies, on November 12, 2021, filed a permit application for construction of a 178-unit, 183,182-square-foot mixed-use building at 975 Nostrand Avenue in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Sally Gilliland, a principal and COO with Hudson, filed the plans. The building will have two towers containing residential units with a shared base, per the plans.
The development is replacing a grocery store that occupied the site for about 60 years.
