Howard Hughes seeks to convert some retail to office in Fulton Market Building
The Howard Hughes Corporation and the city’s Department of Small Business Services are seeking to modify their lease at the Fulton Market Building at 11 Fulton Street in South Street Seaport to change some retail space to office space in the building.
The lease modification would allow an additional 50,000-square-feet of office space in the building, 37,000-square-feet of which would be located on the third floor. The modification would fully transform the use of the third floor from retail to office space. While retail space would still remain on the ground floor, the modification would allow for a 1,250-square-foot lobby office.
The proposal is part of an ongoing transformation. The Howard Hughes Corporation also hopes to bring a 990-foot tower to the South Street Seaport. In June of 2016, the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved plans from the Howard Hughes Corporation to renovate the exterior of the Fulton Market Building.
